you much better control over wood removal than sandpaper. However, a scraper can be frustrating to sharpen if you don’t know the tricks. Paul will show us how we can use a couple of simple shop-made jigs and a few pieces of paper to quickly get a scraper into working order. Then he’ll teach us how to effectively use it for smoothing even the gnarliest of woods Thanks to: Gary Hunchar for stepping in as the Photographer for the Guild meetings. We apologize for not mentioning his name in the last letter. His pictures for the last issue were well composed and we look forward to more of his good work. Special Raffle: A friend of the Guild has donated a 6” Delta Professional, closed base Jointer to the Guild. It is not very old, and is in excellent condition. We will be selling a total of 80 tickets at $5.00 each to raise $400.00 dollars. The winning ticket will be drawn at the August meeting that will be held at the Woodcraft store at the Parkway Shopping Center on Lehigh Street. We are going to dedicate the classroom to Angelo Triandafiliou. The proceeds of the raffle will be used to pay for an engraved Plaque on a framed |

of Angelo, and for refreshments.
The store will stay open until 9 PM for this special event. Last Notice: If you see ’04 after your name on the cover page, you have not paid your dues for ’05. See Andy Anderson if you feel we have made an error. May
Drag-in & Brag-on: Dave Nichols continues to build Bulldozers and he will soon have a fleet to rival the Caterpillar Co. Dave’s models are of the Poplar and Walnut variety and are not meant to go head to head with the cast iron queens, but they sure look like they could. |
|
He has refined his construction methods to the point where he now has five separate jigs to make the segments for the articulated tracks.
|
These tracks work so smoothly, that it might be time for Dave to think about radio control with dual track brakes and blade lift. How about it Dave? Bill Hylton made the scene with a Horizontal Mortiser that featured a Porter-Cable 890 series router and an X,Y,Z platform. |
|
In 1993 Bill co-authored a book with Fred Matlack titled “Woodworking with the Router”, that featured, on page 74, a write-up with plans to make a Horizontal Mortiser. The Router could be adjusted for bit height, but the unit lacked the features of the re-designed unit. Bill is doing a revised edition of the book and he is updating some of the articles.

Emily Grumbine made her first appearance in this segment with a Pen she turned under the tutelage of her Dad, who has turned a few in his day. I think it was made of Maple
